We are pleased to announce the availability of one H.E. Dr Issa Ghanim Jassim Al-Kawari Scholarship for UK/EU and Overseas students to enable them to undertake a range of full-time Taught Masters programmes at SOAS, focusing on the study of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The total value of the scholarship is £25,000. Fees will be deducted from this amount and the remainder can be used toward maintenance.
Students offered a scholarship must take it up in 2018/19. It cannot be carried forward to a later year.
The programme aims to encourage diversity and in particular seeks to strike a gender balance in recipients of award.

Full-time MSc Economics with reference to the Middle East with a focus on the GCC region (Department of Economics)
Full-time MA History of Art and Architecture of the Islamic Middle East with a focus on the art of the GCC region (School of Arts)
Full-time MA Islamic Societies and Culture with a focus on the GCC region (School of History, Religions and Philosophies)
Full-time MA Islamic Studies with a focus on the GCC region (School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics)
Full-time MA Media and the Middle East with a focus on the media of the GCC region(Interdisciplinary Studies)
Full-time MSc Middle East Politics with a focus on the politics of the GCC region (Department of Politics and International Studies)
Full-time MA Near and Middle Eastern Studies with a focus on the GCC region (School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics)
Part-time programmes are not eligible
Candidate Criteria
Applicants must possess a First Class Honours degree, from a UK institution or overseas equivalent.
Applicants must have provided evidence in their scholarship statement of:

Applicants must have an offer of admission to pursue one of the eligible full-time programmes at SOAS by the scholarship application deadline.
Applicants must meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS as soon as possible but no later than 1 June 2018. If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the English requirements as soon as possible.
Open to UK/EU and Overseas applicants
The scholarship cannot be held along with any other major scholarship or studentship.
Candidate Assessment
Candidates will be assessed:
By a Selection Panel comprising of at least 3 academic members of staff.
On academic merit and promise. The statement of financial need will also be taken into consideration.
On candidate's motivation and commitment to their chosen programme.
On candidate's leadership potential and demonstrated engagement in his/her community and the world beyond.
The assessment of your application will be based on the information in your scholarship application and in your on-line application for admission. Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references, statements and other relevant information.
Scholarship Application Deadline
Scholarship applications must be received no later than 17:00 (UK local time) on 20 February 2018.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must ALSO submit a complete online application to your programme. It is recommended to apply for the programme about six weeks BEFORE the scholarship deadline (that is, by 9 January 2018). Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Scholarship Application Procedures
There is a two-step procedure:
You must submit a COMPLETE on-line application for admission.
Applicants must have an offer of admission to pursue one of the eligible full-time programmes at SOAS by the scholarship application deadline. A complete application for admission includes transcripts, an explanation of the grading system for any degrees obtained outside of the UK, two references, CV and a personal statement. The panel will be considering your scholarship application TOGETHER with your on-line application for admission. Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of the year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
It is recommended to apply for the programme about six weeks BEFORE the scholarship deadline (that is, by 9 January 2018).
