[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir cette image]This book covers chinchillas, chipmunks, degus, gerbils, jirds, hamsters, mice, and rats. Each chapter gives you a concise description of the animal, basic husbandry and welfare information (including diet and housing), and a description of its common diseases (including treatment, drugs, and dosages). Tables within each species chapter help the clinician find antibiotic dosages. There is also a chapter on zoonotic diseases.
The husbandry of each of these animals is very different from the others, and the veterinarian who is less familiar with small rodents will get a good education from this book. (For instance, do you know that degus do not metabolize sugar and will develop diabetes if fed a diet containing sugar or carbohydrates? Do you know where to find the Zymbal's gland on a rat? No? You need this book.)
My only criticism of this book is that some photos poorly illustrate the described lesion. For the sake of clarity, the photo should have been taken much closer, or the area of the lesion should have been shaved so as to better illustrate the point.
There are a few drawings to help users differentiate males from females in these sometimes hard-to-identify species.
The book is soft-cover. It is easy to read, and topics are easy to find.
