Dear SVEPM members and colleagues,
It is our great honor to welcome you all to the 2015 SVEPM conference in Ghent, Belgium.
The city of Ghent prides itself on its long and glorious past. As a result it boasts a wealth of extraordinary architectural heritage combined with a modern and vibrant city live. Lonely Planet has called Ghent “Europe’s best kept secret”. Ghent is also the city of knowledge and culture. It is the home to the largest university of Belgium and 3 university colleges. The city is full of ancient to modern art is also one of the four UNESCO creative cities of music. It has one of the most packed calendars of concerts, festivals, shows, sports, gastronomic events and exhibitions in the world. We will make sure that during the conference and its very “local” and exciting social program you will get ample opportunities to discover and enjoy the city and its culinary culture.
The conference venue will be ‘Het Pand’, the culture and congress center of Ghent University. Het Pand is a former Dominican Monastery, situated beside the river Leie in the historic center of the city. The venue is within walking distance of several hotels and it only takes 10 minutes by public transport or taxi to arrive at Ghent St.-Pieters railway station. From there it only takes 40 minutes to reach Brussels Airport or Midi railway station, which connect to the rest of Europe by air or by high-speed train. The conference will retain the usual popular format, including a number of inspiring workshops and two invited plenary lectures to open and close the scientific program. The scientific program will comprise a number of professionally delivered presentations, selected by the Committee based on, among other criteria, scientific importance and novelty.
We are looking forward to welcome you numerously,
Jeroen Dewulf
in name of the local organizing committee.
