Her formal education began at the Junction Demonstration School which she attended until she was eight when her parents moved to their newly built home at Charlestown for her primary school years. After completing high school at Newcastle Demonstration High School, later known as Hunter Girls High, Vivienne began a nursing career at the Royal Newcastle Hospital. In her final exams she came second in the state & after graduating in 1962, moved to Goulburn Base Hospital to further her nursing. While in Goulburn she was offered a career change, when the principal of the Presbyterian Ladies College approached her to consider a biology teaching role. Never afraid of a new challenge, Vivienne agreed & she began teaching biology & later geography to the senior students in 1964. After leaving her role at Centacare Newcastle, Vivienne worked part-time as Mission Services Manager with St John of God Family Services. A short stint at retirement saw her return to full-time work as Director Centacare Bathurst in 2006 & she finally retired in 2008.
