XXI FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics Conference 4th to 9th October 2015 Vancouver, BC, Canada

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure and privilege to invite you to attend the FIGO triennial Congress in Vancouver, Canada. Vancouver is a beautiful city with a great convention centre and number of hotels within walking distance for virtually all those who attend. The convention centre and the facilities are truly impressive – truly a 21st century venue for a FIGO conference.
The FIGO Organising Committee chaired by Dr Abd Aziz Yahya and the Canadian Organising Committee chaired by Dr Dianne Miller are doing their best to make your stay comfortable and the event memorable. Professor Joanna Cain, Chair of the Scientific Committee, Dr Nozer Sheriar, Co-Chair, their core team members and the advisory members are doing a tremendous job to produce a wonderful scientific programme that has many strands from evidence based medicine, to implementation to recent advances and cutting edge technology.  Internationally renowned speakers from all the regions of the world will contribute to this impressive meeting. As delegates, I am proud of each one of your achievements in your home country. This would be a great opportunity to share your professional experience that has helped to improve women’s health and save women’s lives.
The world has witnessed the first wave innovation of medical revolution of public health measures of hand washing, clean water supply and better sanitation followed by the second wave innovations of medicines such as antibiotics, vaccines, blood transfusion and surgery.
The third wave brought new modalities of imaging like ultrasound, CT and MRI scans and latest technology such as prosthesis and robotic surgery. These innovations and higher expectation with the knowledge transfer by Internet has increased expectations and pushed health costs to greater heights. The fourth wave of innovation has to be on health policies to provide the best by preventive medicine and efficient and innovative ways of health delivery to reduce the burden of illness, promote good health and treat illness cost effectively. Some of these issues will will be covered in the pre-Congress courses being organised by the FIGO Committee for Capacity Building in Education & Training ably led by Professor Luis Cabero-Roura. International bodies such as WHO, The Partnership for Maternal Newborn & Child Health, ICM, IPA, UNFPA, UNAIDS, JHPIEGO, UNICEF, IFFS, World Bank and many others including the members of the donor community will participate to make this a magnificent Congress.
I would like to thank members of the FIGO and the local, organising and scientific programme committees, our Chief Executive Prof Hamid Rushwan, Administrative Director Mr Bryan Thomas and Events & Meetings Manager Ms Marta Collins for their tireless effort to make this Congress a great success.
