Faculty of Management and Economics of GdaDsk
University of Technology in cooperation with Institute of Philosophy at
the University of Silesia and Institute of Philosophy at Nicolaus
Copernicus University in ToruD organizes International Scientific
Conference, commemorating two important anniversaries for Gdansk
University of Technology: 150th birth anniversary of Heinrich Rickert,
famous German philosopher, and 20th anniversary of the establishment of
Faculty of Management and Economics of GdaDsk University of Technology.

Double
jubilee, in which name of the harbinger of the methodological
reflection in humanities converges with the creation of the institution
that cultivates knowledge about the socio-economical phenomena brings
about an excellent opportunity to rethink the foundations of social and
cultural sciences. Questions regarding the specificity of the subject
investigated by these sciences, problem of their philosophical moorings
and specific character of their applied methods and scientific
procedures outlines the scope and issues which our conference would like
to address.

Conference is focusing on four main thematic domains:
I.
Methodology of social sciences with the special consideration of
economics: Philosophical and methodological aspects of economic
theories; What is value in economics and how to define it? Is economics
an empirical science? The limits of verifiability of various hypotheses,
claims and propositions put forward in economics; Econometric model and
the problem of its applicability in economics; Theoretical status of
econometrical models; Is economics a “hard science”? How to distinguish
between the „good” economic theory and „bad”? Economic anthropology.

II.
Methodology of cultural sciences; Philosophical foundations of the
cultural sciences; Problem of definition and autonomy of „cultural
sciences”; Problem of demarcation in humanities (Geisteswissenschaften)
and natural sciences (Naturwissenschaften); Classical conceptions of
cultural sciences.
III. Heinrich Rickert as a philosopher and
methodologist; The essence of cultural sciences according to Rickert;
Specificity of the Neo-Kantian approach towards culture; Heinrich
Rickert in historical perspective (polemical context); Topicality of
Heinrich Rickert’s philosophy.

IV. Problem of interactions and
interrelationships between the philosophical reflection and natural
sciences: philosophical and ethical foundations of social and natural
sciences; importance of philosophy and ethics in social, economic and
business sciences; philosophical, sociological and ethical aspects of
technological development.
All the prospective authors who specialize in the topics of:

-methodology
of economics, history of neo-Kantianism, anthropology of economics,
philosophical foundations of sciences, philosophy of culture, Heinrich
Rickert’s philosophy, methodology of human sciences, business ethics,
theory of value in economics, specificity of social sciences

are invited to submit abstracts of as yet unpublished papers.
